In 1913 the Arthur Dunn Cup committee received numerous applications over and above those from the clubs already in the competition. The solution was to introduction a new competition - the Old Boys Cup during the 1913-14 season. The competition was opened to Old 'School' Boys clubs only and a trophy was presented donning the name 'Arthur Dunn'. The first competition hosted 8 teams from around the AFA : Alleyn Old Boys, Old Brentwoods, Old Burians, Old Chigwellians, Old Framlinghamian, Old Hurst Johnians, Old Lawrentians and Old Tridents. It was Old Hurst Johnians who triumphed in the competitions inaugural season beating Old Lawrentians in the final.
The Arthur Dunn Cup committee continued to control and manage the Old Boys Cup between 1913 and 1926, when the Football Association drew attention to one of their rules which stipulated that it was only permissible for a competition to promote and manage a second competition if the latter is restricted to members of the promoting competition (in this case the ADC). So for the 1927 season a separate Old Boys committee was set up to run the competition.
As amateur football grew in stature after the 2nd World War, the committee decided to extend the competition to reserve sides in 1951 adding the Junior Cup to its ranks. Two years later in 1953 the competition added a third tier for clubs 3rd XIs competing for the Minor Cup. 1963 and 1965 saw yet more levels added to this historic competition adding the 4th XI and 5th XI trophies respectively. In 1972 The Veterans Cup was founded, followed by the 6th XI cup in 1980 and the 7th XI Cup in 1985. For season 2017/18 the 5th and 6th XI Cups were merged due to low entry numbers.
To date 35 clubs have been successful in lifting the OBC at any level. The most victories in total have been recorded by Old Stationers. At senior level Old Owens topped the tree in 2017 with a record 12th win.
