Matchday squad
MANAGER:
Shane Wootton – Has been in charge of the 1’s for a few years now. A social butterfly who’s always happy to have a chat and a beer. But be warned, whatever you do, don’t tell him you play football. He’ll chew your ear off and make you wish you’d never engaged in conversation
GOALKEEPERS:
Josh Crawford – Our friendly northerner between the sticks. When not berating the defence giving away silly free kicks and corners, his impeccable handling and world class saves makes keeping look easy at times.
Matt Lawrence – Club legend “Lawro”, was penalty shootout hero in an earlier round. Equally adept at holding onto shots as well as pints after games
DEFENDERS:
Will Chapman – Will “I’m too unfit to come pre-season training” Chapman, feels like he’s been at the club since birth. Very versatile on the pitch, with his patter off it leaving room for improvement.
Ryan Cleanthi – Dreamboat “Big Ry”, is one of the main reasons for the green men being in this final. His very late stunner in the semi ensured bedlam at full time and beyond.
Paolo Malavasi – Local business magnate Paolo although sadly will be the other side of the planet for the final. He deserves a mention in the programme, not just for his leadership and raking Crossfield balls, but also his restaurant chain Monte Forte are the main club sponsor.
Jake Mwangi-Powell – The nicest man there is, JMP plays down the spine of the team with equal quality in each, and gets more than his fair share of goals. One being a last minute winner in the first round of this competition.
Alex Ocneanu – Alex has probably played in every position apart from in goal, and nobody would want to see that. As partial to a wonder strike in an earlier round, as he is a moan up.
Sean Pasiful – Fresh faced Sean, who looks like he could still be at school, slots in across all positions across the back line with ease. Surely will become a global superstar as he’s now one half of a podcasting duo these days.
Will Sanderson – Club captain Will switches between CB and CM, uses his go-go gadget legs to snatch the ball away from opposition players and drive forward with purpose. The modern day Lothar Matthäus , apart from he’s not German.
Andy Setters – “Chief Snitch” Andy is one half of the Setters twins in the squad. A club veteran, Andy has the third best throw in his family, is the second best Setters in the squad, but is also number one in eating vinegar sandwiches. He’s also a class act and the most consistent player at the club.
James Young – “Youngy” has been coerced to come out of his self-imposed retirement this season to stop him feeling old. A rampaging, non-stop central midfielder for years. He’s trying re-assign himself as something a little less full on.
MIDFIELD:
James Duff – Twinkle toes in pink boots. Magic talent, magic feet, magical gold jacket. Loves a stunning finish from distance, plus doing stupid Tik Tok videos about how to brush your teeth.
Jake Hunt – Young Jake who is not so young these days, is a free kick specialist and scorer of great goals. He’s also a regular companion for the drinkers in the club, mainly because he feels sorry for them.
Ben Kershaw – The energizer bunny of the team, Ben has stepped up this season to have a positive impact with his endless running, non-nonsense attitude, and scorer of some good goals to boot.
Jack Smith – “The bolder” Jack Smith has been a scorer of crucial goals, and is the epitome of body on the line and someone you wouldn’t want to play against. And strangely he’s good at injuring his own players.
Ryan Pearson – Is an absolute unit, but a gentle bear of a man. Aggressive in the right manor, Ryan can control the middle of the park, spray a pass, and loves a frozen yogurt.
FORWARDS:
Ionut Bohan – “Jon” is the maverick in the team. In equal measures, will score the best the goal you’ve every seen, while at the same time moaning more than anyone about a pass he didn’t get 60 minutes ago.
Danny Fernandez – Wins more free kicks than Jack Grealish. Danny can score a goal out of nothing, whip in a free kick and paneka a penalty. He is English, but has more passports than James Bond.
Anesu Katsuwa – Watch out, Anesu’s about. If you thought Ben could run, this guy is relentless. Scorer of some mazy and crazy goals. Anesu has been seamless in his transition from 5th team to 1’s regular this year.
Rob Setters – The better of Setters clan, Rob goes down in history as scoring an absolute Gazza-esque effort in our centenary win against a league 11. Sniffer of goals, he also has a habit of getting locked in toilets.
Alex Weetman – Fitness guru Al is unfortunately injured for the final but absolutely deserves a mention. 1’s player of the season last year, Alex got back into the squad after a bad injury. Aggravated it in the semi final victory, so will have to come back next season to be a positive impact on the pitch, and as a model for better hair.
